Categories & Units of Measure

Product Categories

Categories help you organize products and make them easier to find at POS. They also let you filter reports by product type.

1. Go to Products → Categories → Add Category
2. Enter a category name
   e.g. "Beverages", "Electronics", "Clothing", "Services", "Raw Materials"
3. Set a parent category (optional)
   Create sub-categories by selecting a parent. e.g. "Soft Drinks" under "Beverages".
4. Add a category image (optional)
   This shows on the POS product grid when browsing by category.
5. Save

Units of Measure

Units define how products are counted — pieces, kilograms, litres, boxes, etc. Before adding products, create the units you need.

1. Go to Products → Units → Add Unit
2. Enter unit name and short name
   e.g. Name: "Kilogram", Short: "Kg". The short name appears on invoices and POS.
3. Set "Allow Decimal"
   Enable this for units like Kg or Litre where you sell fractional quantities (e.g. 0.5 Kg). Keep it off for units like Piece where you always sell whole numbers.

Conversion Units: You can set up unit conversions (e.g. sell by piece but buy by carton of 12). Go to Products → Units and set a conversion rate. This lets you purchase 1 carton (12 pieces) and have the system automatically add 12 to stock.
